My name's Phil Mosby. I am a photographer and print maker from Lake Tahoe. In 2018 I was given the huge honor of creating a piece of art for the entryway to the JWST Mission Operations Center in Baltimore, MD, where it hangs to this day. Now that the JWST has produced its first incredible images of our cosmos, I have the great joy of helping to bring these images to the walls of space lovers the world over in fine-art canvas print format (including the same hexagon cluster style that hangs at the JWST MOC!) My name is Phil Mosby. I'm an astro-landscape photographer and fine art print maker. In 2018, through what I can only judge to be extreme serendipity (or maybe just luck), I was asked by Carl Starr, the Mission Operations Manager of the James Webb Space Telescope, to create a copy of one of my Hexagon Print Clusters for the entry way to the JWST Mission Operations Center in Baltimore, MD, where it hangs to this day. As a small town photographer, print maker, and space lover it still blows my mind to know that my art hangs on these hallowed walls and is a tiny footnote in the background of such a historic mission.
Years later, right before the JWST was set to be shipped off to French Guiana for launch, I was finally able to get a look at this beautiful machine with my own eyes thanks to another serendipitous new connection. What a view to behold. Gazing at the JWST through a pane of glass, knowing how many years of effort and human ingenuity it took to get it to this point, and also knowing that it would soon be one millions miles from earth changing humanity's view of the cosmos forever, was a truly surreal experience.
Through the incredible efforts of the folks at NASA, ESA, CSA, and all of the involved agencies, the JWST launched without a hitch on Dec 25th, 2021, and a month or so later reached its home at L2, the second Lagrange Point, about a million miles from Earth, where it resides today.
It's now my joy and honor to help bring the JWST's first images to the walls of space lovers around the world by offering them as
lovingly handcrafted, archival-quality canvas prints, including the same
Hexagon Cluster format that hangs on the walls of the JWST MOC! Scroll down and click on an image to browse my print options or place an order.
While I would love to make you a print, please also note that taxpayer money made this mission possible and
everyone is free to download the high resolution images produced by JWST and enjoy them as they like, you can even print them yourself at home! You'll find links to the high res images in the info section about each image, linked below.
